Born in Brazil, Thais Coelho began playing the violin at the age of six until, ten years later, she chose insteadto pursue a career with the viola under the guidance of Elisa Fukuda.
While still in São Paulo, she played with various orchestras as a soloist and as a member of many chamber music ensembles, winning several nacional competitions. In 1999 she was chosen to participate at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland such as to be a member at the Verbier Festival Orchestra. When she waseighteen, she entered the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra with a scholarship from the Vitae Foundation. Simultaneously, she was studying at UDK (Berlin's University of the Arts) under the tutelage of Ulrich Knörzer and Wilfried Strehle. In Viena she attended viola classes with Professor Hans Peter Ochsenhofer. In 2004, she became a member of the German Symphony Orchestra (Deutsches Symphonie Orchester-Berlin). Thais Coelho was a member of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra from 2006 until 2012. She played under the guidance of many conductors such as: Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim,Nikolaus Harnoncourt, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Seiji Osawa, Simon Rattle, Christian Thielemann. During the last decades she collaborated also with the Rundfunk Symphonie Orchester Berlin, Berliner Philharmoniker and Wiener Philharmoniker. With Paul Rivinius she brought out a CD with works of the brazilian composer E. Villani-Cortez. In 2016 she performed the Viola Concerto of Christian Bach(Casadesus) with the Camerata Fukuda in Sao Paolo, in 2017 the Bartok's Viola Concerto with l'Orquestrede Jeune de Fribourg in Switzerland, with whom she played during the last years also Bach's Brandemburg Concert n.6, “Trauermusik” from Hindemith and Frank Martin's “Ballade”. She played also several times the Sinfonia Concertante of Mozart with Elisa Fukuda, Luiz Filipe Coelho and Lorenz Nasturica. Thais Coelho has been an active member of the Akanthus Ensemble, Trio Novel and Bracc. She colaborated with manychamber music ensembles such as Ensemble Berlin, Celibidache Quintet, Philharmonic String Quintet and Venus Ensemble. Since 2012 she is a member of the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester-Berlin.
