CURRICULUM

Rocco Luigi Bitondo became passionate about the world of percussion at the age of 5 and at the age of 12 he was admitted to the Music Conservatory of Matera where he graduated brilliantly at the age of 20. At the same time he completed his scientific high school studies and attended a year of Design at the University of Bari. He later graduated with honors in the second level specialist in Percussion Instruments at the Conservatory of Music in Potenza.
Over the years his attention has shifted mainly towards Percussion in the classical and orchestral repertoire but there are severals collaborations in the most varied musical fields: from classical to jazz, from wind music to orchestra, from chamber music to ethnic and popular music.
At the age of 18 he won the competition as best student of the Conservatories of Matera and Potenza performing, as a prize, the Darius Milhaud's “Concerto for drums and orchestra” with the Lucana Symphony Orchestra.
At the age of 19 he won the first prize in the "chamber music" category in the "R. Ponselle ”city of Matera, followed by several solo concerts accompanied by the piano.
At 22 he won the audition as a percussionist in the National Band of the State Police in Rome. Here, in 2012, he won the international audition as percussionist assistant Timpani of the Rome Opera House with Maestro Riccardo Muti as Chairman of the commission and Professor Anton Mittermayr (First Timpano of the Wiener Philarmoniker) external commissioner of the jury.
Over the years Rocco Luigi Bitondo has collaborated with several orchestras and opera houses including: Royal Opera House -Covent Garden- of London, Philharmonia Orchestra of London, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Symphonic Orchestra of Rome, Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Italian Cinema Orchestra, Magna Graecia Orchestra in Taranto, Fiesole Youth Orchestra, Lucana Symphonic Orchestra, National Orchestra of Italian conservatories.
He has collaborated with world famous Conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Daniele Gatti, Sir Antonio Pappano, Ennio Morricone, Luis Bacalov, Jeffrey Tate, Yuri Temirkanov, Charles Dutoit, Jennady Rodzendwensky, James Conlon, Juraij Valchua, Miung Wung-Chung, Eliau Inbal, Gianandrea Noseda and many others.
There are several collaborations in the contemporary, modern and chamber music. He has participated in international festivals including: the Venice Biennale, the Ravenna Festival, Tokyo Opera Festival, Traiettorie - international festival of contemporary music - Parma, Große Festspiel in Salzburg.
To his current work at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, he gladly combines the didactic activity intended as sharing his path and his experience with the younger musicians who are entering the profession, with lessons and masterclasses at Conservatories of Music and Academies.
